TIMOTHY CLUB WITNESSING / PREACH THE GOSPEL – WEEK 1 FUNDAMENTAL TRUTHS

The Church is a called out body of believers that have been commissioned by God to fulfill the Great Commission:

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Matthew 28:19-20

That makes personal evangelism or soul-winning the most important activity of the Church. Those that are considered faithful know that there is a time assigned to each activity for the Church. We schedule a time for Sunday School and we attend. We schedule a time for the Preaching Service and we attend. We schedule a time for Wednesday Night Service and we attend. We schedule a time for so many activities of the Church and those that are faithful are expected to be there: no one should question that.

If we schedule a time for those things that are important for the Church, doesn’t it make sense to schedule a time for the most important activity? I don’t understand why some in the Church do not consider the personal evangelism activities of the Church to be a necessary Church function and something that is the personal responsibility of every Church member.

If we all did that, more people would go soul-winning, more people would be saved, more people would be baptized, more people would join the Church, we would have more workers in the Church, and we would have more people to go soul-winning.

We have let this concept and practice slip away from the Church today and I believe it is time to bring it back. It is still in the Bible, it is still God’s plan, and it still will work. Let me give you some fundamental truths about this matter of personal evangelism:

1 – We must never change our mind about Church-wide personal evangelism. God said about Solomon, “If he be constant” He would bless him. Consistency is still the key to God’s blessings.

2 – We need to get more people involved in personal evangelism so it will become popular instead of something negative.

3 – Everyone from the Pastor to all the members in the pew need to promote personal evangelism so we can see it grow through the years to come.

4 – All Church leaders need to be faithful to show up for the scheduled personal evangelism times.

5 – Each soul-winner needs to ask someone who does not attend soul-winning to go with them.

6 – We need to understand the importance of getting literature in the hands and homes of people.

7 – We must keep records of those that are won to the Lord.

8 – We need periodic instruction on how to lead a person to Christ.

9 – Use the Wednesday Night service to find someone to be your soul-winning partner.

10 – Each soul-winner needs to carry 3x5 cards to write down the decisions that are made and the names and addresses that need to be followed up on.

11 – We need to train our children and teens to be soul-winners.

12 – As soon as we can, we need to provide a nursery for the personal evangelism times.

13 – We also need to, as soon as it is needed, provide transportation to the places that we will visit.

14 – We need to keep track of where we have visited on a map that is displayed for all to see.

15 – There needs to be a short meeting each Thursday evening and then the soul-winners need to go out two by two.

16 – We need to understand that it is God’s will for people to be saved during our personal evangelism times:

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 2Peter 3:9

17 – There are people in our area that want to be saved.

18 – God knows where each person is that wants and needs to be saved.

19 – God has someone waiting for each of us to lead to Christ.

20 – We must earnestly pray daily and especially before we go out and ask God to lead us and have our paths cross with the one He wants us to win. We also must pray that the Holy Spirit goes with us and works in the hearts of the soul-winner and the person that is being witnessed to.

21 – We need to train ourselves to talk to and try to present the Gospel to the first person we meet while out on visitation.

22 – Always speak positively about soul-winning and point out the good things that happen while you are out visiting.

23 – After you win someone to Christ, do your best to get them to commit to come to Church. Follow-up on that person before the next Sunday, if possible. Offer to give them a ride to Church.

24 – Remember that there are phases of soul-winning: NO FRUIT – FRUIT – MORE FRUIT – MUCH FRUIT – AND THEN FRUIT THAT REMAINS.

25 – Our duty is to be faithful and let God give the increase. This is never to be a contest.

26 – Remember, it will probably take years to develop into a fruit soul-winner.

27 – Someone’s lost loved one is dependent on our faithfulness.

28 – Last and most important, we must be prayed up, cleaned up, and fit for God’s use. He will not use or fill a dirty vessel.

TIMOTHY CLUB WITNESSING By PREACHER DANNY BEZET

WHAT IS THE TIMOTHY CLUB?

What we have had in the past and what most Churches have for a soul-winning program is anything but exciting. Very few are concerned about winning people to Christ and very few show up to try to do it. On top of that, most of our visits never result in a presentation of the Gospel.

It is not my desire to just get people to come to visitation, but to get us excited about presenting the Gospel to people. Most of what we have done in the past is simply get here, pray, give out cards or assign a street to knock and head out.

As a result, some came and never came back because they were not trained to do what we were asking them to do and they did not see a real plan in place to get better at it. I want more than that; I want an exciting program and a workable plan to keep people coming and to see people saved.

I don’t want this to be a complicated program or a high-pressure program. I want a well-organized program that our people can enjoy and see results. Winning people to Christ is the most important business in the world. I use the word “Business” because that is the word Jesus used. He was about the Father’s business and He commanded us to do the same.

We are calling this the Timothy Club based on II Timothy 2:2:

And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. 2Timothy 2:2

I am having a couple of weeks of introduction to give some time to decide to join us. This will also give you the opportunity to invite others to come. My real desire is for you to choose a partner that you can get to come and visit with you every Thursday. Plan to have this partner for at least three months.

Unlike what we have done in the past, this is probably not for everyone, at least not right now. We are looking for those that are willing to be trained and use what they learn to see people saved.

Let me say that personal evangelism, the act of witnessing or giving the Gospel to people has never changed. This is not a program that will give you a new way to present the Gospel or teach you a new Gospel. We are just trying to make the Bible method of winning people to Chrsit more effective and exciting.

We must remember that it is a privilege to have a part in winning a person to Jesus. I know we have Preached and taught that it is the duty of every Christian and that is true, but it is also a privilege:

Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into. 1Peter 1:12

Do you realize that the angels in Heaven would like to do what we are doing? But God has given that responsibility to us. That is why this must be serious business and only those that want to be here should be here. We don’t want this to be just another job that the Church expects them to do or something that they are pressured or shamed into doing.

Some will not want to do things like we are going to do them in this program. That is why there will still be the Saturday morning visitation time. We and they can come at that time. We have had the “anyone-who-would-like-to-come” concept and it has not worked.

What we what in this program are those that really have an interest in winning others to Christ. II Timothy 2:2 says that we are to commit the things we have learned to “Faithful Men.” We are to concentrate on training the faithful.

I am convinced that if we do things the Bible way, we will not see less people out soul-winning, but we will eventually see more.

It is my goal to see some of you become trainers and help us train others to win people to Christ. That is why I want people to select a partner. Right now, both may be training to win souls, but after about three months, you should be ready to each get a new partner and train that person to be able to get them a partner. As we repeat this process over and over, we will have many people out soul-winning and I believe we will see many people saved.

I know husbands and wives like to go together, but for the sake of training new soul-winners, it will be better that after you have been trained, you split up, each with a new soul-winning partner. This partner concept will create a sense of obligation to show up each week and to learn as much as we can.

I hope these partners will communicate with each other during the week and encourage each other. After the first group of people are trained, they will be able to help the new ones that come into the program by giving them confidence that they are going with a person that knows what they are doing.

One of you needs to learn to be the silent partner and pray while the other is presenting the Gospel. That silent partner also is there to handle any interference. You will want to speak out at times, but that will usually be a distraction instead of a help.

We will have a handout each week along with some things for you to do to get ready for the next meeting. These will include Scriptures to memorize and certain other things to learn. We may even have some quizzes. Remember, we are training to be the best we can be.

I hope all of you understand that I am the Pastor and sometimes my schedule becomes more than I can handle. I hope to have everything prepared and ready each week. Please pray for me.

I realize that there are many ways to present the Gospel. But for the sake of this program, I want us to have a uniform way and method. Once you have been trained and have won people to Christ, you will be encouraged to develop a method and presentation that may be unique to you.

We will be using demonstrations and practice times in this program.

Please remember and understand that we are under the command of the Lord to do what we are doing:

And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. Luke 14:23

Starting next week, after a short time of training, we will go out and make a few visits to put in practice what we have learned. There is no substitute for actually seeing people face to face and praying that we will get the opportunity to give the Gospel to them.

Please spend time during the week praying that God would allow you to see somebody saved. There is nothing more exciting than actually seeing people come to Christ. This will create a desire and a burden in your heart to see people saved and it will also produce excitement for you and this program. What you learn actually leading people to Christ can never be learned in a classroom.

He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. Psalms 126:6

Your personal testimony is a very important part of this program and in winning people to Christ. I would like to hear the personal testimony of everyone in this program and I would like for each of you to give a brief testimony when you return each week after you have made some visits.

This will give us the opportunity to rejoice with those that had good visits and learn from and encourage those that perhaps did not. During this time, we must always remember to give God all the glory. The testimony time may also prompt questions.

This will also be a time when we can discuss how to get those we meet and win to come to Church.

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Matthew 28:18-20

One of the areas that is greatly lacking is the area of following up on those we meet that are good prospects and those we have won to the Lord. I want to instill in every one of us a desire to do our own follow-up work and have the personal satisfaction of seeing those we meet and win come to Church. I want each of us to end this year being able to know that we have gotten someone or some family in Church.

We want to go back with some material that we can leave with them. At the first visit, let them know that you will be back with this material. Talk to them about their personal assurance and the fact that they need to be baptized and be a member of a good Church.

This is why you need to take the time to get their personal information; name, address, and phone #.

* A few days after your visit, you need to write them a hand-written letter on our Church stationary.

* Immediately you need to start praying for that person by name.

* Call them on Saturday and remind them about Church and offer to pick them up if needed.

* When they do come, always sit with them if you are not involved in some other ministry.

* Invite them to the other services, talk about what we do in these services and be excited about them.

TIMOTHY CLUB GOSPEL PRESENTATION

I would like for everyone to memorize this presentation. As you progress through this program, it will become easy for you to have this presentation committed to memory. Again, I want all of us to use the same presentation. Not every person you meet will be the same so the exact words you use may differ, but the basic presentation needs to be the same.

I – OPENING CONVERSATION

Get to know the person by asking simple questions about where they work, what Church they go to, have they been in this area long, etc.

Ask about their personal relationship with Christ and try to get them to give you their personal testimony.

If they are not saved or you are not convinced that they are saved, use these three questions leading into your Gospel presentation:

1 – Has anyone ever shown you from the Bible how you can be sure you are going to Heaven?

2 – May I take a few moments to share with you from the Bible how I know for sure that I am going to Heaven and how you can know too?

3 – I hope you have a long and wonderful life, but suppose you were to die tonight and you stand before God and He were to ask you, “Why should I let you into Heaven?” What would you say?

If they do not want to hear the Gospel or they stop you at any point, do not press them or argue with them. Tell them that you care about them and will be praying for them. Leave the door open to come back and talk to them again.

II – PRESENTING THE GOSPEL

TELL THEM THAT WE ARE SAVED BY GRACE

God wants us to know that we are saved Salvation is by grace, not works; it can’t be earned

TELL THEM THAT WE ARE ALL SINNERS (Be sure to include yourself)

No one is good enough to go to Heaven:

As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: Romans 3:10

All have sinned:

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Romans 3:23

Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: Romans 5:12

We are not sinners necessarily because of what we do, but because of what we are. The Bible says we are sinners! Because we are sinners, we cannot save ourselves.

Sinners must be punished for their sins:

For the wages of sin is death… Romans 6:23

BUT WE HAVE A MERCIFUL GOD!

God sent Jesus to die for our sins before we were even born:

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

Because of Jesus and what He did on Calvary, God offers salvation freely:

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23

Salvation is a free gift from God!

TELL THEM THAT WE MUST RECEIVE CHRIST AS OUR SAVIOUR

We must believe in our heart that Jesus is who He said He was and that He will do what He said He would do:

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Romans 10:9

We must personally call on the Lord, and Him alone, to save us:

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Romans 10:13

III – DECISION TIME

Make sure they understand what you have told them. Ask them if they understand. Then ask them if they would like to trust Jesus to save them right now.

If they say yes: Tell them that they need to pray and ask Jesus to save them and that you will help them. Tell them that they are not praying to you, but to the Lord. They are not trusting you but the Lord.

Ask them to pray this prayer, get them to repeat after you:

“Lord Jesus, I am a sinner and I am asking you to forgive my sins and take me to Heaven. I am sorry for my sins and I believe you will forgive me if I ask you. I believe that you died and rose again for me. I give my life and my soul to you. Thank you for saving me. Amen”

You pray and thank God for saving them and allowing you to spend this time with them.

IV – IMMEDIATELY COVER THE FOLLOWING:

Did you call on the Lord to save you? According to the Bible, where would you go if you died tonight?

Ask them if they would come to Church with you this Sunday. Ask them if they would mind telling the Preacher what happened to them.

Make an appointment to come back and visit again to bring them some material to help them.

GET YOUR PARTNER AND DO A SHORT DEMONSTRATION. KEEP THESE NOTES IN FRONT OF YOU AND FOLLOW ALONG.

Tell Others

Are you going to HEAVEN or HELL?

Most people say they will go to Heaven

and ask " why do I need Salvation?"

I am a good person... I'm surely going to Heaven...

I tell you friend... you need Salvation... just like me...

because we all have sinned.

we all fall short of the glory of GOD...

Ro 3:23 For all have sinned,
and come short of the glory of God;

the bible is clear that no sin can enter into the kingdom of Heaven.

We must do something to get rid of our sin

Money won't help us...

Good works will not get rid of our sin either...

their is only one way to get rid of our sins...

and only one way to Heaven Friend...

His Name is above all names... King of Kings..

Our Lord JESUS CHRIST

He has already paid for all of our sins...

Friend... "he is" the "doorway to Heaven"...

My Friend... JESUS is the only way to GOD...

Only The BLOOD of JESUS washes away our sins

What should I say to someone who has lost a loved one through cancer
