Isaiah 33:14 "The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?"
Many do not quite understand true fear. We have played around with fear and seen the fear of man and some even choose to play with evil fear but there is a fear of God that has yet to be fully explored. God tells us in Isaiah that sinners and hypocrites should find a fearfulness within their soul. He asks two distinct questions in the above verse. Will you be with Him, the consuming fire, to dwell with in all of eternity or will you dwell in everlasting burning which He will bring about in the casting into hell. We are told to have fear of the Lord and that it is the beginning of wisdom. I like beginnings and desire to be wise so I though on this fear of the Lord.
Hebrews 12:29 "For our God is a consuming fire." When John looked upon Jesus he fell on his face as a dead man. He was afraid. He understood and comprehended the righteousness and brightness of the consuming fire of God.
Revelation 1:16 "And He had in His right hand seven stars: and out of His mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and His countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength." The sword of the Word will spill out of His mouth and He will hold the seven representations of the seven angels that represent the seven Churches. His face will shine with the brightness of the sun in it's brightest moments. Blinded by the light and fearful of His might.
This is our God. Isaiah 30:33 "For Tophet is ordained of old; yea, for the king it is prepared; He hath made it deep and large: the pile thereof is fire and much wood; the breath of the LORD, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it." Tophet was the trash dump outside of Israel for years.
It was for the trash to be burned. Here we see the LORD using Tophet as an illustration of hell. It is large and deep set afire by the very breath of the LORD. He is a consuming fire. There will be wailing and gnasting of teeth. Isaiah 5:14 "Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall desend into it." This is no laughing matter and we need to be sober minded in our lives. We should be at that beginning of wisdom and continue in it so that we too can understand and comprehend the magnitude of what is to come. Hell is not the party zone it is the dead zone. A place of torments and pains that continue on and on for the soul will not die in it's flame but it will be in torment.
Revelation 1:14-15 "His head and His hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and His eyes were as a flame of fire; And His feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and His voice as the sound of many waters." The gravity of the LORD is nothing to joke around about He is the all consuming fire for all of eternity. His voice is as the sound of the waters rolling in at hightide. Loud and strong and mighty.
The God of all has made everything and all things consist by Him. No spook house will put the right amount or right fear in you. Start at the beginning of wisdom with the fear that will teach you and test you and help you to be ready in the day He comes to knock at your door. James 5:9 "Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold the judge standeth before the door." Having a fear of God is a right thing. Fearing any other, especially evil is just a waste and that kind of fear will never bring about a true fear.
Matthew 10:28 "And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear Him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." Fear God for He is able to destroy both the soul and the body by casting them into hell which has been set aflame by His breath.
