The Key To Christian Growth
Years ago my pastor told me that the key to Christianity was to pour my life into others. I have found this to be so true in the past 17 years that I have been a Christian. I have had more joy in my life by trying to be a blessing to others and normally I am the one who winds up getting a blessing.
The greatest joy however has been having the opportunity to point a wandering lost soul to Christ. The Bible tells us that if we follow Jesus, that He will make us fishers of men. I found out just by volunteering to help in the Church when our pastor said we need someone to fill the gap, that after filling that gap, the Lord blessed with opportunities to see someone saved. We often miss out on the blessings of God because we are busy about our own business and have not been about His.
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise as some men count slackness, but is longer suffering and not willing that any should perish. We also know that the Lord came to seek and to save that which was lost.
I believe that once a sinner bows their head and asks the Lord to forgive them that they receive Life Everlasting and once that same person decides to follow Christ and point others to the Cross that He receives abundant life. You see the more you begin to tell others about Christ the more the Holy Spirit will remind you of your own life.
I was convicted more about my music and hair because I was out soul winning and the Lord would deal with my heart and it was like He said “Why do they need your Jesus?”. The more you go, the more you grow it is as simple as that. It is one thing to talk about fishing, but it is another complete experience to put your line in the water.
Sure you are going to have some times that you feel you could have done better. There are going to be times you had them but just could not seem to get them to bow their heads and call upon the name of the Lord. We have had these same experiences while we were out fishing for fish. We have had them to the boat but could not land them, and on the way home we talked about what we could have done to keep from missing the fish.
This did not keep us from fishing anymore, it only caused us to work to be better fishermen the next time. It is called growth, we learn from our experiences whether they be good or bad. The same is with being a witness for our Lord Jesus Christ. We will have those times, but we just need to be determined to try and do better next time.
So don’t be weary in well doing, keep handing out Gospel tracts, keep knocking on doors and inviting people to church, keep going to the jail, keep running those church buses. I know you are not the Christian you should be sometimes, but you will never grow to be the one the Lord wants you to be if you do not stay about the Fathers business.
